Joan Barrett is currently a Deputy Director of the Crown Law Office – Criminal Counsel in the Ministry of the Attorney General, Ontario. She holds an LL.M. from Cambridge University (England) and has practiced with the Ministry since her call to the Ontario Bar in 1997. She has appeared before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada.  She is a member of the Supreme Court Advocacy Institute. Since 2013, she has been an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School. She is the author of two legal texts, numerous other publications and is a frequent speaker on criminal law topics.
