As the days get shorter and we all get a little more embedded in COVID-normal, join The Advocates’ Society for an introductory session on mindfulness. There is a growing body of science that shows that mindfulness and meditation help with stress reduction, concentration, and memory. There is also an increasing focus on how meditation and mindfulness can serve lawyers, and some schools now include meditation in their curriculum (e.g. the Berkeley Initiative for Mindfulness in Law, University of San Francisco, University of Toronto).
In this session, Jason Leslie* will lead us through an introduction to the practice and practical benefits of mindfulness. The session will consist of a short "sit" (i.e., meditation), a talk from Jason, another short sit, and a Q&A session. No previous experience is necessary. We look forward to sitting with you!
*Jason Leslie is an experienced meditation practitioner and instructor. He has meditated for 16 years, and has completed many long retreats and the Spirit Rock Dedicated Practitioner's Program. In addition, Jason leads sessions at the BC Insight Meditation Society. Jason is also a lawyer, having received his JD from Columbia University in 1997. Jason formerly worked as a litigator for the DOJ, and is currently a PhD Candidate at UBC Law School.
Hosted by the Young Advocates’ Standing Committee
