The plenary program will be held the morning of Wednesday, May 17 and the learning-by-doing skills workshop will be held the afternoon of May 17. There are two registration options: (1) plenary + workshop or (2) plenary only (see below for more information).

Experienced trial lawyers and judges will explore practical issues relating to expert evidence and will offer winning strategies on how to choose, use, prepare, examine and challenge expert witnesses.

You will learn how to:

• Get the best expert to support your case.
• Effectively use expert reports at trial.
• Instruct experts on report preparation.
• Conduct a successful expert examination.
• Decide whether and when to lead your expert's qualifications
• Challenge and expert’s evidence
• Navigate difficult ethical issues involving experts.

Participants of the plenary session are also eligible to join us for our hands-on skills workshop. The workshop is your chance to practise and refine your examination and cross-examination skills in a supportive environment. You will get practical, individualized feedback from our trained instructors. You will also learn from your peers as you work through the interactive exercises in small groups, and have a chance to work with a real expert. Please also note that the workshop requires advance preparation based on a mock case file, which will be provided to you in advance of the workshop.
